The Secret of Gardeur
Founded in 1920, Gardeur employs a workforce of some 2,000 and supplies approximately 3,000 customers in 50 countries around the globe. As Germany’s only fully integrated trousers atelier, Gardeur ensures absolutely assured fit, a high standard of craftsmanship and flexible collection control.
At their German headquarters, two in-house creative teams design the pants with a great sense of style, and pattern makers then translate the styles into true-to-size patterns. Seamstresses in the sample-making department always lovingly handcraft the first prototypes.
Gardeur runs its own sewing shops, laundry and quality assurance, because making trousers requires high-precision craftsmanship. All operations are certified and coordinated by Gardeur technicians in the company’s own laboratories – they don’t leave anything to chance. In brief: it is the special creativity and the high degree of skilled trade that has made Gardeur the trouser specialists they are, for over 90 years now!
Now at the end of this season we have selected Gardeur pants for only CAD$ 99!

Down With the Winter
It's light. It's flexible. It withstands frigid
temperatures on mountaintops. And in the entire history of humans staying
warm, nobody's been able to beat it.
Down jackets come in different shapes and sizes. For more flexibility and something to wear when you're out on
a cool day, there are narrower strips of down. Which means there's less bulk and it's easier to move about.
Now, for a big
snowy day, think big! Bigger quilts, but fewer, so the jacket stays
lightweight and comfortable. Each larger quilt gives the down more room to loft
- more room to fluff out. Which results in more insulation, and transforms your
stylish jacket into the perfect shield against the cold!

From Spain, con amor!
Aldo Martins is a brand designed and made in the mountain town of Igualada, just outside of the vibrant Catalan capital, Barcelona.
There, Marti Bisbal and his family have built a unique and fast growing business. Aldo Martins’ specialty: multi-coloured knitwear!
Each and every garment is a piece of art. The father, two sons and a daughter, each in charge of a key aspect of the business, make sure everything is done perfectly.
The whole process of creating their garments begins by translating the fabric designs into a computer software that is then sent to sophisticated knitting machines. They turn it into yards and yards of supple and soft material.
The fabrics are then cut and put together in a labour intensive process, all by hand. Pre-laundering and pressing ensure that every piece will maintain their quality after the first cleaning.
Each item is carefully checked for flaws, labeled, packaged and is ready to be sent anywhere in the world!
And, the best part: these handcrafted luxury garments, made in Spain, still come at a very affordable price!

At The Tip of your Fingers
Petra Karthaus has an innovative surprise for you this Fall/Winter! We just received our touchscreen enabled leather gloves!
Touchscreens on most devices today do not react to heat. Instead, they react to one’s skin and its changes in electrical currents – or, to put simply, touch. Our new leather gloves employ specially engineered leather on the palm-side that reproduce the human touch so that users can operate their devices without having to take their gloves off.
To give the leather the ability to interface with touchscreen devices, it is immersed and treated with a specially formulated solution during the traditional tannery process. Thus, this feature is lasting, as it is ingrained within the leather itself. As a result of the treatment process, touchscreen enabled leather is also more durable, water-repellent, wind-proof, and soil-resistant.

Happy Wool Week!
At Petra Karthaus we have, from the alluring and unique boiled wool
Geiger jackets, to the colourful and vibrant wool tops from Aldo
Martins, and the chic designs from Garella and Bogner. Whichever you
choose, you are sure to look elegant and make a smart decision!
WHY WOOL?
NATURAL: Wool is a protein fibre formed in the skin of sheep, and is thus one hundred percent natural, not man-made. Since the Stone Age, it has been appreciated as one of the most effective forms of all-weather protection known to man, and science has yet to produce a fibre which matches its unique properties.
RENEWABLE: As long as there is grass to graze on, every year sheep will produce a new fleece; making wool a renewable fibre source. Woolgrowers actively work to safeguard the environment and improve efficiency, endeavouring to make the wool industry sustainable for future generations.
BIODEGRADABLE: At the end of its useful life, wool can be returned to the soil, where it decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients into the ground. When a natural wool fibre is disposed of in soil, it takes a very short time to break down, whereas most synthetics are extremely slow to degrade.

art + fashion
Hazelton Lanes is holding an Art Festival from May 10 to May 19. For 10 days, OCAD University's artists will take over the famous Oval Square in the mall, turning the centre's common space into a pop-up gallery. You can check out the entire schedule for the event here.
As part of the festival, Petra Karthaus is featuring works by Jacqueline Treloar in the store.
Elm Tree Near Bath |
Jacqueline Treloar is an artist and educator. She is a graduate of the Central School of Art and Design in London, England, where she received a Leverhume Traveling Scholarship to further her studies. She has also been the recipient of national and international awards and her work is held in private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, the UK, Belgium and Italy.
Featuring Jacqueline at our store is part of an initiative to bring art and fashion together: from time to time we, at Petra Karthaus, want to bring new artists to the store.
